Our programs are about Authors Collaborating with Teachers and Students. As authors we know how to read difficult texts closely so we get the main ideas, we know how to do research, and we know how to use what we learn to create books that make the subject inspiring and interesting for students. The CCSS are concerned with the nitty-gritty of how this is done. So by working with authors, you and your students begin to practice the process.
Our Class ACTS program is tailored to your curriculum and your school’s needs. Best of all, you have access to the author according to your schedule.
How is this possible? Through interactive videoconferencing and online, ongoing written conversations.
Class ACTS are unique programs that provide highly individualized professional development for teachers and motivation and inspiration for students. These programs are designed for two or three teachers (up to three classes) to work with an author.
The price of a Class ACTS program for two or three teachers, up to three classes is $2500. This includes a print copy of the book for each teacher, 2 classroom sets of books or ebook pdfs suitable for downloading to each students' tablet, 2-3 hours of face-to-face video time with the author over a period of weeks. A Google Classroom with written interaction between the author and teachers and students, keeping a record of the project.
What follows are descriptions of programs from individual authors.
Vicki Cobb--What's the BIG Idea: Amazing Science Questions for the Curious Kid
Carla McClafferty --The Many Faces of George Washington:Remaking a Presidential Icon
Roxie Munro-Rodent Rascals
Dorothy Hinshaw Patent-- When the Wolves Returned:Restoring Nature's Balance in Yellowstone

- You select a book that fits into your curriculum needs.
- Together (author and teachers ) we figure out your goals for the book.
- We plan how to use it with your students in your classroom. The book becomes a mentor text, an inspiration for classroom projects, and a shared experience in learning something new about the real world.
- The children meet the author via videoconferencing to ask questions and to share their work inspired by the author.
